Students at Holy Family’s Matt 25 camp work for the community

NEWARK — It was a bright Monday morning in July, warming up but mercifully cooler than the broiling heat and humidity that had hung over the area for the previous week. Inside Holy Family Church, some two dozen youngsters attended daily Mass before heading into the sun, where they would spend much of the next three days.

The group was part of the parish’s “Matt 25” work camp, an annual service opportunity that allows them to share their talents with the parish and the surrounding community. The camp derives its name from the Gospel story of the sheep and the goats, with the famous line, “Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.”
