High school seniors to be honored by Bishop Malooly

Eighty high school seniors – 10 from each of the eight Catholic high schools in the diocese – will receive the St. Francis de Sales Award medal from Bishop Malooly at a ceremony April 30 at Holy Family Church in Newark. The medal featuers St. Francis de Sales, patron of the Diocese of Wilmington, and the inscription, “Diocese of Wilmington – Outstanding Catholic School Senior.”

The award recognizes the young men and women for excellence in faith development, scholarship, service, leadership and citizenship.

The recipients, as provided by the Catholic Schools Office:

Archmere: Michael Bannon, Mercedes Chartier, Conor Furey, Camryn Hicks, Elena Latini, Cara Nedbalski, Rebecca Peet, Kevin Reardon, Tyler Signora and Colton Takata.

Padua: Lara Ballintyn, Jennifer Borio, Sarah Cushing, Amy Horney, Ashley Muschiatti, Angelina Spadaccini, Shannon Steiner, Samantha Szurkowski, Lucy Vavala and Erin Wendelburg.

St. Elizabeth: Sabrina Hackendorn, Jack Harkins, Jesse McCann, Madeline Rizzo, Matthew Rydlewski, Owen Stecca, Donovan Sweeney, Sarah Todero, Michael Whiting and Patricia Worthey.

Francis de Sales is known for his writings on spiritual direction and formation. He was beatified in 1661 and canonized by Pope Alexander VII in 1665. Pope Pius IX proclaimed him a doctor of the universal church in 1877.
