Groups merge to form Diocesan Vocation Guild

WILMINGTON — The Diocese of Wilmington Mothers’ Guild and the Serra Club In-formation have merged to form the Diocesan Vocations Guild, the organization announced last week.

Linda Mondzelewski, the president of the guild, said the merger made sense for a number of reasons. “Both organizations shared similar missions, both organizations helped each other with projects and events, and there was significant membership overlap.  Our union will make us a much more efficient group.”

The Vocations Guild will hold or sponsor several events, including Priesthood Sunday, a Christmas luncheon for priests and seminarians, a reception at diocesan ordinations, a Lenten afternoon of reflection, and the Vocations Awareness Week drawing contest for children in grades 1-4.

Membership is open to Catholics from within or with ties to the diocese, who pray for, encourage and support the bishop, priests, religious and seminarians. Members pray for an increase in vocations and the success of priestly and religious ministry. Meetings are held in Wilmington on the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. from September through June.

“We invite anyone who shares our mission of prayer, affirmation and promotion of vocations to the priesthood and religious life to join us,” said Father Joseph M.P.R. Cocucci, director of the diocesan Office of Priestly and Religious Vocations and spiritual adviser to the Diocesan Vocations Guild. “Guild membership is one way to help assure that we have priests to meet the sacramental needs of our church for generations to come.”

There are two types of membership: active and auxiliary. Active members are involved in many aspects of the guild’s work. Auxiliary members support the mission of the guild through prayer and any other way they are able. Yearly dues are $20 for individuals or married couples.
