At Archmere, it’s business as usual for the Auks, which means one of the toughest schedules in the state and a likely high seed come tournament time. The Auks won the state title in 2014, reached the final in 2015 and fell to Ursuline, 3-2, in last year’s semifinal round.

Archmere lifts the lid on the 2017 slate with a tough trip to Smyrna this afternoon at 5 p.m. Read more »

MILLTOWN – Ursuline’s young volleyball team had allowed Archmere to tie Nov. 10’s semifinal volleyball playoff match at two sets apiece in ugly fashion, falling 25-12 in the fourth set. WILMINGTON – Archmere, playing its first match since losing a five-set marathon at Wilmington Friends on Tuesday night, came out with a purpose on Oct. 21, sweeping host Padua in convincing fashion. Set scores were 25-21, 25-22 and 25-17 in front of a rocking sellout crowd that turned out to watch the two two teams in Delaware battle just a week before the end of the regular season.

The top-ranked Auks used a balanced attack and perhaps their finest defensive effort of the season to take down the No. 2 Pandas. Lexi Kelly led the way with nine kills, while Julia Kochie and Faith Merritt added seven apiece. Kochie also played stellar defense, collecting 13 digs. Archmere used superb positioning all night to counter the effectiveness of Padua’s all-state hitter, Emily Jarome, which also led to a number of uncharacteristic errors on the Pandas. Read more »

ALAPOCAS – When it comes to the attack for the Wilmington Friends’ volleyball team, Dani Nathan is the straw that stirs the drink. And while the sophomore had a superb outing Oct. 18 against Archmere, she had lots of support from Delaney Martin and Alexandra Musi.

It was Musi, in fact, who sent match point off the tape and the hands of an Auks defender as Friends picked up a five-set, come-from-behind win over Archmere, the No. 1-ranked and last undefeated team in the state. The scores in the marathon match were 21-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-16 and 15-11, which provided the Quakers with their first win in a five-setter this season in three opportunities. Read more »
