CLAYMONT – Four different players scored for Lake Forest as the Spartans defeated Archmere, 4-2, in a Division II field hockey quarterfinal-round playoff battle Nov. 11 in Claymont. Lake moves on to the semifinals, where it will meet top-seeded Delmar on Wednesday.

The fifth-seeded Spartans dominated possession in the first half on a cool, breezy day, picking up four penalty corners to none for the No. 4 Auks. WILMINGTON – Tower Hill celebrated Senior Night on Oct. 30 before its nonconference field hockey game against Archmere. Once the game started, however, it was a sophomore who gave the Hillers the lead they would never relinquish in a 4-1 triumph.

The game had a special feel even before it started. Not only did Tower Hill recognize its 12 seniors, it also honored the Auks eight. Temporary lights were brought in for the occasion, making it the first night game ever at the school’s Richardson Field. And the Hillers were determined to maintain their perfect record. Read more »

CLAYMONT – The gray skies and light drizzle were an apt setting for the first-round field hockey playoff battle between Polytech and Archmere on Nov. 9, at least from the Auks’ perspective. The Panthers scored 15 minutes into the first half of the defense-dominated game, and that held up for the 1-0 win.

Much of the early portion of the contest was played near the middle of the pitch, although 10th-seeded Polytech managed a deflected shot off a penalty corner 12 minutes in. They capitalized on an opportunity three minutes later, as Lacy Bayley was able to convert a crossing pass from Madilyn McKay at the 14:32 mark. Bayley took the pass, turned and beat Archmere goalie Mady McDougal to the far corner. Read more »

Appo holds off Auks’ quest for softball upset

For The Dialog

CLAYMONT – Archmere hosted Appoquinimink on April 30, and the Auks fell just short of upsetting the state’s fourth-ranked softball team. The Jaguars escaped with a 3-2 win.

The Auks had lost three in a row coming into the game, and Caravel had defeated top-ranked Caravel earlier in the week. Appo struck first as Rachel Durham reached on an error and scored on a two-out hit by Haley Jones in the top of the second. Brooke Miller added a solo home run with two outs in the third to double the lead. Read more »
