Bull roasts, church bazaars and more: Upcoming events in the Diocese of Wilmington

Here we are past the mid-point of summer, and there are still plenty of great activities in and around the Diocese of Wilmington. Check these out:

 

  • St. Ann’s annual St. Ann Novena runs through Thursday, July 25, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. with Holy Hour, Benediction, reading of Sacred Scripture, praying the rosary, and a Litany to St. Ann. Novena will be led by seminarian Eric Gianforcaro. For more information, (302) 654-5519.

 

  • This weekend, don’t miss the monthly International Night Dinner hosted by the Ministry of Caring at Francis X. Norton Center, 917 North Madison Street, Wilmington. This month’s guest chefs are from Caffe Gelato presenting A Taste of the Chesapeake. Doors open at 5 p.m., dinner is at 5:30 p.m. No takeout available. $35 per person – note the new price. All meals must be by pre-paid reservation only. Benefits Emmanuel Dining Room.   • Next week St. Ann in Bethany Beach will hold its annual Church Bazaar. Premiere Night is July 31 from 3-7 p.m., the cost is a $5 donation. Remaining hours: Aug. 1, 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m.; Aug. 2, 9:30 a.m.- 5 p.m.; Aug. 3, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The Bazaar features a food and bake sale, sales of kitchenware, indoor garden items, jewelry, tools, toys and bikes, books, furniture, linens, a Christmas shop, hand-crafted items, religious gift shop, raffles, framed art, puzzles, silent auction, a raffle for Kia Sportage (drawing Sept. 2) and more.   • Mark your calendars for two bull roasts in the diocese in a few weeks. Both events promise to be delicious!

 

  • On July 27, St. Dennis in Galena is having their “Drive Thru” Bull Roast, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at 153 N Main St, Galena, Md. This year will have optional outdoor seating and corn hole will be available, weather permitting. Menu includes half a fried chicken, delicious pit-roasted beef, two ears of locally-grown corn on the cob, homemade potato salad plus two rolls with butter and a bottled water, all for $25. The famed St Dennis Bake Sale will also be available for purchasing dessert as you exit the property. Advance ticket purchases are strongly recommended as a limited number of meals will be prepared.  Drive-up ticket purchases on the day of the event are possible. Tickets may be purchased at the church before and after the weekend Sunday Masses (8am and 11am in Spanish) or by calling Jim at 717-575-1235. Pick up of meals with curb-side service is on July 27th from 11am until 2pm. Please follow the directed traffic pattern.

 

  • And on Aug. 18 St. John’s in Rock Hall is hosting their Bull Roast at the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company from 1-5 p.m. More information will appear in upcoming posts at thedialog.org and on our Datebook page.

 

  • Golfers should register now for the annual CYO Joseph A. McNesby Jr. Golf Outing on Sept. 18 at Deerfield Golf Club. The day starts at 10:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at noon, and auction/dinner at 5:30 p.m. $200 per golfer, with an additional $30 tournament specials. Sponsorships are also being accepted.   • In just two weeks, St. St. John/Holy Angels will host its annual International Food Festival on Aug. 11 from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m at the Holy Angels Campus, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark. The day features cuisine from different countries setting up at different times throughout the day — most are there by 11 a.m. There will also be entertainment.   • Looking ahead to the fall, The St. Margaret of Scotland Church Activities Committee is looking for vendors, crafters and flea marketers to join them on Sept. 28 for the Fifth Annual Outdoor Marketplace from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Rain or shine event held in the parking lot of St. Margaret of Scotland Church, 2431 Frazer Road, Newark.
