Archmere Academy awards diplomas to 143 seniors on May 31

CLAYMONT — Archmere welcomed 143 alumni at commencement exercises held May 31 at the Rocco A. and Mary Abessinio Performing Arts Center. Bishop Koenig presided.

Daniel Qi was the valedictorian, and Kabir Goyal the salutatorian. Both were named National Merit Scholarship Corp. winners this year. Qi earned departmental honors for art, while Goyal was honored for mathematics, Spanish, computer science and STEM.

Michael Hagerty and Ceilia Patiño shared the Archmere Medal, the school’s highest honor. It recognizes the senior whose qualities most closely mirror the school’s philosophy and Catholic values. He also received departmental honors for theology. The second-highest honor, the Activities Medal, for service and participation, went to Don Bogey Jr. Bogey also received the Campus Ministry Medal.

Angela Zhang was the student speaker contest winner. Emily Juarez received the Delaware Certificate of Multiliteracy for Spanish, and Anne-Cecile Kattila earned the certificate for French. Kattila also earned honors for excellence in music (voice) and humanities.

The Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages Awards of Excellence honored Ethan Flores for French, Allison Moyer for Chinese, and Tsion Mideksa for Spanish.

Other departmental honors went to Rebecca Wang, science; Chloe Li, English; Kellyn Williams, history; Michael Liu, French; Valentina Ramos, Chinese; Gretchen Tonn, music (instrument); Griffin Merenda, design; and Brianna Cubbler, drama.

The Christian Service Medal went to Paige Noval.

Ryan Hagenberg won the Men’s Athletic Medal, and Bridget Malloy won the Women’s Athletic Medal.

The following students received the St. Francis de Sales Medal from the Diocese of Wilmington: Luca Anerino, Kindred Ballard, Madelyn Benson, Bogey, Meredith Finger, Ethan Flores, Hagerty, Kennedy Harrington, Colin Mosley and Patiño,

The Class of 2026 will matriculate at 75 different colleges and universities in 26 states and the District of Columbia. They earned more than $36 million in scholarships and grants. One, Daniel Konitzer, earned an Army ROTC scholarship.
