Feast Day: June 6
Born to a noble Rhineland family, Norbert led a courtier’s life until age 35, when his spiritual conversion was triggered by a violent
thunderstorm. After ordination, he became an itinerant preacher and gave his worldly goods to the poor. With Hugh of Fosse he started a community of canons regular in northern France that became the Premonstratensian Canons. In 1126 Norbert was chosen archbishop of Magdeburg (Germany), where he faced opposition and risked his own safety to recover church property.
