WILMINGTON — Marina Mahon had two first-half goals, and Hannah Stewart added a goal and two assists as Archmere remained undefeated in girls soccer with a win on April 10 at Conrad, 5-0. The Auks were playing for the first time in 15 days.
It didn’t take long for the Auks to go on the offensive. They worked the right sideline over and over, with their crossing passes either going through the box or being interrupted by the Red Wolves. They also had a corner kick in the 10th minute but could not convert.
A few minutes later, however, Archmere got on the board. Hannah Stewart sent a pass just outside the 18-yard box to Marina Mahon, and Mahon’s rising shot zipped under the crossbar for the 1-0 lead in the 15th minute.
The same pair teamed up in the 28th as the Auks doubled their lead. This time, a Stewart pass toward the net was chipped by Mahon over Red Wolves goalkeeper Erica Coruzzi.
Conrad had an opportunity late in the half, but a free kick from about 22 yards out went over the Auks’ wall and also the net.
The Red Wolves earned a corner kick early in the second half, but Auks goalkeeper Ava Soscia made a lunging stop on a header to keep Conrad off the scoreboard. Archmere turned up the pressure on offense after that, and it eventually paid dividends.
Lyla Bell picked up the third goal of the game in the 47th. She took a pass from Julianna Witherell and fired a turnaround shot just inside the right post. Stewart added to the lead in the 57th, after an Auks free kick ended up on the foot of Audrey Curtis. She sent the ball to Stewart, who sent a hard roller past the diving Coruzzi.
The final goal came after an Auks corner kick. A Red Wolves defender got a piece of a crossing pass, but the ball went high off her foot and into the net.
Archmere outshot the Red Wolves, 11-2, and had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Soscia had two saves. The Auks (3-0) play the first of six straight at home on Friday against Ursuline at 3:45 p.m.
Coruzzi had six saves for the Red Wolves, who fell to 3-2 in their first game in two weeks. They are home Friday against Early College at 3:45 p.m.
