WILMINGTON — Delaware Military was down to Archmere, 2-1, entering the fourth set of their Diamond State Athletic Conference volleyball match on Oct. 8, and the visiting Auks began the fourth set with a 4-0 lead following a Grace Mahoney block.

But the Seahawks scored the next 10 points and held off an Archmere rally to win the fourth, and they took control in the fifth for a 3-2 victory at the Anthony N. Fusco Sr. Athletic Center. Set scores were 21-25, 25-15, 19-25, 25-20, and 15-8.

The Seahawks tied the fourth set, 4-4, on a stuff by Nissi Wadieh, and took the lead on an Auks hitting error. Brianna Hathaway contributed three aces during the run, which finally ended on a service error.

DMA was very consistent during that fourth set, with its lead ranging from three to five points after the run except for one point where it reached 22-16 on a Maya Hill ace. The Auks closed to within three on four occasions, but they could not get any closer. Maddie August, Sophia Falasca and Madelyn McNicholas were particularly effective in keeping the Seahawks in front with their front-line play.

Down 23-18, Archmere got a kill from Sarah Hayes and scored on a DMA attack error, but Wadieh ended the set with a block.

With Kate Hines on serve, the Seahawks opened up a 10-2 lead in the fifth, a stretch that included two aces for the senior libero. Hayes had two kills during Archmere’s comeback attempt in the fifth to cut the lead to 11-8. But Eddianna Estupinian smashed a shot into the Auks’ wall to start a match-clinching 4-0 run for DMA.

Final statistics were not available Thursday morning for Archmere, which fell to 5-5. The Auks visit Conrad on Friday at 4:15 p.m.

August and Hill led the Seahawks with 11 kills each, while Hines and Maria Workman each served up four aces. Delaware Military (5-4), which won its third five-set decision of the season, remains home on Thursday against Caravel at 6:30 p.m.
