ST. GEORGES – Katie Hanich scored four goals, including one less than a minute into the game, as Saint Mark’s traveled below the canal and came home with a 7-0 win over St. Georges on Oct. 4. It was the Spartans’ fifth consecutive win.
The Spartans went to work in the first quarter to put the game out of reach. The first goal came after the Spartans chased a loose ball down on the sideline to the right of Hawks goalie Addison Weismiller. Hanich (St. John the Beloved Parish) took a pass and fired a shot through a screen at the 14:17 mark.
Saint Mark’s kept the pressure on, and it paid off with a penalty corner a few minutes later. This time, Hanich did her damage from a sharp angle to the right of Weismiller to make it 2-0.
The Spartans were on offense throughout the quarter, rarely allowing St. Georges to cross midfield. A restart with three minutes remaining led to a backhand swat that sent the ball into the scoring circle, and Alaina Papa (St. Mary of the Assumption Parish) was there to drive it home. Hanich picked up her hat trick later in the first, stealing a Hawks pass, dribbling to the top of the circle and drilling it home.
That was it for the scoring in the first half. Hanich added her fourth goal in the fifth before leaving the game, and Saint Mark’s scored twice more, with Emersyn O’Leary and Addison Starsinic getting those.
Final statistics were not available Saturday morning. Saint Mark’s (6-2) hosts Milford at 4 p.m. on Oct. 8. The Hawks (3-6) remain home against Delaware Military on Oct. 7 at 3:45 p.m.
