CLAYMONT — Sussex Tech scored three times in the second inning, and pitcher Jeremy Vest made that stand up in a complete-game performance as the Ravens defeated Salesianum, 4-2, on May 11 at Dyer Field in Claymont.

Sussex Tech went to work 90 feet at a time against Sals starter Jack Rossi to score its runs in the second. Rosnell Lewis was hit by a pitch, and a walk to Kobe Tindley put runners on first and second with nobody out. Brock O’Day singled to center, loading the bases before Kade Hall walked to score Lewis.

After a strikeout, a sacrifice bunt by Zane Adams scored Tindley, and Braydon Hazzard singled to right, driving in O’Day.

Vest allowed just one base runner in the first two innings, and that came on a wild pitch after a strikeout. The Sals got on the board in the third. Matt Speicher was hit by a pitch with one out and moved to second on a passed ball. He took third on a fielder’s choice and scored when Jimmy Gray flared a single just over the shortstop.

The Ravens added their fourth run in the fourth, and they held off the Sals’ attempts to come back. Vest threw out a runner at the plate in the fourth, ending one scoring threat, but Salesianum did get a run in the fifth on a double by Tre Villanova and a single off the bat of Matt McSorley. The Sals made solid contact in both the sixth and seventh innings, but leftfielder Tindley caught two line drives in the sixth, and Lewis caught two fly balls in the seventh.

Six Ravens each had one hit in the win. Vest allowed four hits and struck out six. Sussex Tech (14-2) hosts Saint Mark’s on May 14 at 4:15 p.m.

Rossi and reliever Aidan Moore combined to strike out five for the Sals (8-7). They have three games in the final week of the regular season, the first of which is May 13 at Archmere at 4 p.m.
