The week has begun with cooler temperatures, but the action on the fields and in the gymnasiums is not cooling off. It may be hard to believe, but some teams have reached the halfway point of their schedules.

The volleyball schedule gets off to a rocking start on Monday at Padua, and it’s a big week for Ursuline as well. The Raiders travel to Saint Mark’s before logging some miles to play in an Ursuline school tournament in suburban Boston. In field hockey, Archmere goes under the lights at Caravel as they try to tame the Bucs.

Speaking of lights, the Saint Mark’s soccer team visits Newark Charter on Tuesday night in boys soccer. Both teams have postseason ambitions. The big football clash of the weekend takes place in Claymont on Saturday morning, as Archmere and Caravel meet. The teams sit atop Class 2A.

Dates and times are subject to change, so be sure to check schedules before heading out. Also, some schools require advance purchase of tickets.

Volleyball

Monday, Sept. 23

Salisbury Christian at Ss. Peter and Paul, 5 p.m.

Archmere (3-2) at Red Lion (2-4), 6:30 p.m.

Wilmington Charter (5-0) at Padua (3-2), 7:15 p.m. Two titans of the Delaware high school volleyball scene get together on Broom Street to begin the week. The Pandas, coming off a road sweep at Indian River, have played very good volleyball, with their losses coming to a pair of top-five teams. The Force have lost just two sets all season, and their record includes a sweep of then No. 1 Saint Mark’s.

Tuesday, Sept. 24

Delmarva Christian (2-4) at Padua, 7:15 p.m.

Ursuline (6-0) at Saint Mark’s (4-1), 7:15 p.m. Longtime rivals Ursuline and Saint Mark’s meet for the first time this season. The Raiders are coming off consecutive sweeps, but this one could go the distance. The Spartans have rebounded after their lone loss of the year, and they should have a big crowd at home for this highly anticipated matchup.

For Caravel, this will be the second big test of the week, following a battle against Tower Hill on Tuesday.

Caravel is the highest-scoring team in Division II, and they have given up just four goals in six games. Katie Cole is one of Caravel’s best goal scorers, and Addie Van Rensler has been a wall in goal. The Auks’ Maura Read and Layla Clark lead their offense.

Football

Friday, Sept. 27

Saint Mark’s (2-1) at Caesar Rodney (1-2), 7 p.m. The Spartans play the first of three straight below the canal and four in a row on the road against the Riders. Elijah Burke has emerged as perhaps Saint Mark’s most potent offensive threat. He scored three touchdowns in a win over Red Lion. A win at home would help Caesar Rodney’s postseason chances.

Dover (0-2) at Salesianum (2-1), 7:30 p.m. The Sals are looking to rebound after their first loss. The Senators are coming off a bye week and will need to find a way to stop a Salesianum offense that is itching to get back into the end zone after the loss to Malvern Prep.

Saturday, Sept. 28

Caravel (3-0) at Archmere (3-0), 11 a.m. These two teams met last season in the Class 2A championship game, and while the rosters have changed, the success has continued for both the Buccaneers and the Auks. Caravel is averaging 30 points per game while allowing just six. Archmere has not had trouble scoring points, but they’ll need to find a way to slow down the Bucs’ attack.

Glasgow (0-4) vs. St. Elizabeth (1-2), 2:30 p.m. at Abessinio Stadium. The Vikings picked up their first win against McKean, with the offense continuing to produce points. The Dragons have allowed opponents to score liberally, but they stayed close to Class 1A contender Tatnall after giving up three first-quarter touchdowns.
