WILMINGTON — Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Wilmington has received a grant for $168,934 for homeless prevention and $30,000 for shelter operations at Casa San Francisco in Milton from the Delaware State Housing Authority. The funds are for the 2024 fiscal year.
Lisa Schieffert, director of program operations for Charities, said the money will help the agency “deliver important services to avoid homelessness for families and individuals at risk. These funds will enable Catholic Charities to continue to transform communities by helping the poor and marginalized.”
Catholic Charities provides financial support to qualified households for rent, mortgage and utility expenses. Case managers work with clients on budget coaching, tenant education and planning for stable housing, among other services.
Casa San Francisco includes an emergency shelter, serving 85 clients per year for an average 60-day stay. Applicants must be 18 or older with proof of identification, meet federal Department of Housing and Urban Development requirements defining homelessness, and be capable of following Casa’s guidelines.
