CLAYMONT – Conrad rebounded from a slow start and scored a convincing 46-36 victory over Archmere in Diamond State Athletic Conference basketball Friday night in Claymont. It was the Redskins’ sixth consecutive win as they moved to 11-4 overall and 5-0 in the conference.
Conrad trailed, 12-9, after the first quarter, but they took control during the second, when they held Archmere to just two points. The Redskins forced the Auks into several turnovers, creating scoring opportunities that they cashed. Conrad took the lead at 13-12 on one such play, as Jordon Blake converted a Conrad steal into a three-on-one layup.
Archmere was unable to keep up with Conrad’s run-and-gun, and the Redskins gradually extended the lead. The Auks’ lone second-quarter points came 2:55 before halftime when Ben Revak hit a 10-foot baseline jumper.
Archmere’s cold shooting continued throughout the third. In fact, through three quarters, the Auks had just seven field goals. The Auks found their shooting touch in the fourth, when they scored 16 points. Robert Baxter and Nick Udovich hit back-to-back three-pointers with less than three minutes to play to give Auks fans hope, but E.J. Stephens was solid at the free-throw line, hitting seven of eight attempts to secure the win.
Blake and Kyle Malick shared scoring honors for Conrad with 13 each, while Stephens had 11. The Redskins have little time to celebrate as they travel to Delmarva Christian on Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. start.
Revak had 10 to pace the Auks, and Udovich contributed nine. The Auks, who are 6-12, play their final road game of the season on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Charter.
