MILLTOWN — Saint Mark’s Students in Action Club has earned 19 awards in 16 different film festivals for its film, “Remember Me.” The piece was recorded in January during the club’s service trip to the Dominican Republic. It captures the essence of the work the students accomplished, the people they served, and the impact of the trip on all involved, the school said.

“Remember Me” won awards such as best of show, best short documentary, most inspirational film, best human spirit and best Pennsylvania student filmmaker. It was entered in festivals in locations as diverse as Berlin, Cannes, Toronto and Los Angeles, as well as festivals closer to Saint Mark’s, such as Philadelphia, Jim Thorpe, Pa., and Rehoboth Beach, according to the school.

Lauren Tyree, a rising junior, helped to write the scripts for the film, and she narrated and edited it. She is also vice president of service programs for Students in Action.

“I feel so lucky that we were able to capture the essence of the transformative experience of serving in the Dominican Republic through this film,” she said. “This team created such an impactful experience, and I am so blessed to get to work alongside such thoughtful and selfless classmates.”

Brianna Nichols, a student featured in the film, represented Students in Action at the Jim Thorpe Film Festival in April.

“The audience was very interested in asking lots of questions and learning more about the trip. Lots of time went into making the video, both in the Dominican Republic and at home,” she said.
