NEWARK — Five teachers at Holy Angels School this year bring a unique perspective to their classrooms. Each of them once sat in those desks as students. According to the school, each of the former students “are not just stepping into classrooms, they are bringing a treasure trove of optimism and pride that perfectly aligns with the school’s moral and ethical development mission.”
Transitioning from student to teacher may bring some humorous moments, the school said, “but these alumni embody the values and skills instilled during their formative years at Holy Angels School.”
The alumni teachers are Sophia Giannetta, kindergarten; Bailey Tuschinski, third grade; Angela Russo, first grade; Noah Forrester, seventh grade; and Kathy Schnell, physical education. The years they attended Holy Angels range from 1975-2013.
“Coming to teach at Holy Angels was truly a call to return home,” Russo said. “This school and community will always hold a special place in my heart, and I am honored to be a part of it for future generations.”
Schnell said she remains friends with many of the people she met as a student at Holy Angels. Tuschinski told the school about the connection she has always felt with the school.
“When I heard there was an opening, I thought to myself, ‘How cool would it be to work at my old school and teach third grade in the same classroom that I was taught in many years ago?’” she said.
