Franciscan Sister Leonora Juliani, longtime diocesan educator, dies on 95th birthday

ASTON, Pa. — Sister Leonora Juliani, who ministered in the Diocese of Wilmington for more than four decades, died July 10 in Assisi House on her 95th birthday. She was a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 71 years.

Born in Philadelphia, Sister Leonora (formerly Sister Marie Rita) ministered primarily in education. In the Diocese of Wilmington, she taught at Immaculate Conception School in Elkton, Md., and St. Paul in Wilmington. She also was principal of St. Anthony of Padua School in Wilmington for three years, and she was the librarian at Corpus Christi School in Elsmere from 1980-2009.

Sister Leonora also ministered for 14 years in education in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, and she spent 15 years in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia serving her congregation.

All services will be held in Assisi House on July 17 and will be livestreamed. A Christian Wake Service will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a viewing. The Mass of Christian Burial is at 11 a.m., with burial in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. Donations in Sister Leonora’s name can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S.
