With so much to do around the Diocese of Wilmington, there is always an opportunity to have fun or participate in faith activities. Be sure to get out and enjoy the fun things to do around town and in your parishes:

  • Get some great bargains on Aug. 24, from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. at the fabulous Parish Yard Sale at St. Benedict’s Parish,408 Central Ave. in Ridgely, Md. in the Parish Hall (A rain or shine event). Find wonderful like-new and gently-used items at remarkable bargain prices. Children’s items, lawn and garden, housewares, seasonal and holiday, jewelry, home décor, books, collectables, linens, and so much more. Delicious and reasonably priced homemade breakfast and lunch foods and drinks available. Outside vendors can rent their own space at the Yard Sale for only $20 (payable the day of the sale).   • Also on Aug. 24, support the Walking with Moms and Family Service,Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 35318 Church Road in Frankford. The service is to support any single moms or families who live within the boundaries of both parishes (St. Ann & OLG) and are in need of assistance. The goal of the group is to save lives of the unborn and assist single moms and families. The opening service will include prayer, rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet. A St. Ann counselor will be present and guest tables in the narthex at OLG will include St. Ann Respect Life Committee, St. Vincent DePaul group, Knights of Columbus, men’s club and more.   • Looking for a gourmet meal and to support a good cause? Come to the monthly International Night Dinner, at the Francis X. Norton Center, 917 North Madison Street, Wilmington on Aug. 25 at 5 p.m.: This month’s guest chefs are from Buckley’s Tavern presenting an “All American” menu. Dinner includes Vichyssoise soup with chives, seared chicken breast with a mushroom sauce, gratin potato and broccoli, fruit cobbler with ice cream and caramel sauce, bread and butter. Doors open at 5 p.m., dinner at 5:30 p.m. Dine-in fonly no takeout available. $35 per person – note the new price. All meals by pre-paid reservation only. Benefits Emmanuel Dining Room.   • If you are missing loved ones fallen away from the faith, come to the St. Monica Teardrop Mass on Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. at St. Helena Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington. Join the St. Thomas Columbiettes  or this annual Mass and devotions to beg St. Monica’s intercession for those loved ones who are away from the Church. Rosary will begin at 6:30 p.m., and Mass will begin at 7 p.m. Fill out a Tear Drop card for loved ones and all who have fallen away from the church.   • Sept. 8, Trio Caliente! in concert at Mary Mother of Peace Church: Join us at Mary Mother of Peace Church at 30839 Mt.   • On Sept. 7 & 14, there will be memorial services to observe the National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children at Cathedral Cemetery, Holy Child Parish, Gate of Heaven Cemetery and Holy Cross Cemetery. More details to come.

  • Also, on Sept. 7 at 9 a.m.: Padua Academy is hosting the annual PANDAmonium 5K.  Registration begins at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. race, at Rockford Tower in Wilmington.   • On Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m. St. Hedwig’s Parish will host the annual 9/11 Anniversary Mass. Bishop Koenig will be the main celebrant. St. Hedwig’s is located at 408 S. Harrison Street, Wilmington.
  • Golfers should register now for the annual CYO Joseph A. McNesby Jr. Golf Outing on Sept. 18at Deerfield Golf Club. The day starts at 10:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at noon, and auction/dinner at 5:30 p.m. $200 per golfer, with an additional $30 tournament specials. Sponsorships are also being accepted.   • On Oct. 5 join Bishop Koenig and other Catholics in Ocean City, Md., for the Diocese of Wilmington Eucharistic Congress. Held at the Ocean City Convention Center, the theme is “The Eucharist: Source and Summit.” The day features keynote address by Bishop Richard Henning of the Diocese of Providence, and will include faith-based vendors, a ministry fair, and sessions geared toward various interests and age groups. There will also be opportunities for Adoration and Reconciliation.   • Looking ahead to the fall, The St. Margaret of Scotland Church Activities Committee is looking for vendors, crafters and flea marketers to join them on Sept. 28 for the Fifth Annual Outdoor Marketplace from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Rain or shine event held in the parking lot of St. Margaret of Scotland Church, 2431 Frazer Road, Newark.
