PAOLI, Pa. — Norbertine Father Michael T. Collins, a longtime faculty member at Archmere Academy in Claymont, died Jan. 22. He was 64 and had been a member of the Norbertines since 1968.
Faher Collins was born in Woodside, N.Y., but moved to Claymont and attended Holy Rosary Church while a student at Archmere. He joined the Norbertines, who at the time staffed the school, following his graduation and was ordained to the priesthood in 1978.
He was assigned to Archmere for the entirety of his priestly ministry, working as a teacher and dean of students. His former students returned to him many times over the years to officiate at their weddings and the baptisms of their children. He returned to the Daylesford Abbey in 2011 and remained there until his death.
Survivors include a brother, Gary, and a sister, Deborah Blahusch.
Vespers and the viewing will be Jan. 26 at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial, with Norbertine Abbot Richard Antonucci presiding, will be held Jan. 27 at 10:30 a.m., with burial in the abbey cemetery.
