ASTON, Pa. – Sister Eleanor Augustine Beckman, who spent 17 years ministering in the Diocese of Wilmington, died May 26 in Assisi House. She was 88 and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 66 years.
Born in Philadelphia, Sister Eleanor Augustine taught at Corpus Christi School in Elsmere from 1953-55. She returned to the diocese after retiring from teaching, working as a receptionist at St. Francis Hospital for 15 years. She spent most of her ministry in education in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
Services will be held Thursday in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, Aston. A Christian wake service will be held at 9:30 a.m., followed by a viewing. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., with burial to follow in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
