Appealing for peace in the Holy Land, Pope Francis has called on Catholics and others around the world to unite in prayer, fasting and penance Oct. 27 for peace in the region, and the Diocese of Wilmington is joining the effort.
There will be an hour of prayer starting at 6 p.m. (Rome time) in St. Peter’s Square “imploring for peace in the world,” the pope said, and local churches are invited to organize similar initiatives. Although a specific fast or penance is not prescribed, Catholics are invited to fast in whatever capacity they can Oct. 27, joining their sacrifice to the suffering of Christ for people affected by the strife.
Catholics of the Diocese of Wilmington are asked to take up the Holy Father’s invitation in praying for a peaceful resolution to this war and for peace throughout the world.
On Friday, Oct. 27 at the Cathedral of Saint Peter, Bishop Koenig will be presiding at the 11 a.m. Eucharistic Holy Hour with the recitation of the rosary for peace followed by the 12:10 p.m. Mass. The faithful of the diocese are invited to attend.
