Sister Anna Hope Bauerlin, who grew up in Wilmington, dies at 93

ASTON, Pa. – Sister Anna Hope Bauerlin, who grew up in Wilmington and was a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 70 years, died July 24 in Crozier Hospital. She was 93.

Sister Hope was born in Philadelphia but moved to Wilmington as a child. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish and a graduate of Wilmington High School. She entered the congregation in 1946 and professed her first vows two years later.

Sister Hope, a registered nurse, ministered primarily in healthcare and social services. She worked in the Archdiocese of Washington for 23 years, and she also served in the archdioceses of Baltimore and Philadelphia, and the dioceses of Harrisburg and Allentown, both in Pennsylvania. She also ministered in Oregon, South Carolina, Texas and the state of Washington.

Services will be held July 31 in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, Aston. A Christian Wake Service begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by a viewing, with the Mass of Christian Burial at 11. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. Donations in Sister Hope’s name can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, PA 19014.
