St. Anthony Society in New Castle is celebrating its 100-year anniversary with a traditional procession June 9 through the streets of historic and old New Castle.

The procession begins at 12:30 p.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Church.

Marchers will be waving to spectators along the way to a short ceremony at the Italian monument. They will take a break for complimentary traditional Italian water ice and are treated to a tasting of some homemade wine.

In addition to members and families, processing will be friends, neighbors, parishioners and an authentic Italian band.

The event begins at St. Peter the Apostle Church and ends with refreshments and a selection of “light Italian fare” and Italian music immediately following the procession in Crowley Hall.

Organizers invite people to join in the celebration. If you are unable to walk and fortunate to live in and around the procession route, please gather along the sidewalk with your chairs and red, white and green to help celebrate the 100th anniversary.

“We ask that the Lord deepen within us a sense of gratitude for the heritage created by the many sacrifices, dreams, and prayers of all those St. Anthony Society members who have gone before us,” the group said in the parish bulletin.
