WILMINGTON — Tina Morroni, the principal of Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Brandywine Hundred for the past five years, will step down from that position effective Aug. 9. Francis Corrigan, the assistant principal, will serve as interim principal for the 2024-25 school year, according to a letter from Morroni to the IHM School community.

Morroni arrived at Immaculate Heart of Mary in the summer of 2019 from the Woodbridge School District in Sussex County, where she was a teacher and administrator for 10 years. Before that, she taught in the Baltimore area for 13 years. She told The Dialog in 2019 that it was time “to kind of come home” to a Catholic school. Morroni is a product of Catholic education, having attended St. Vincent Pallotti High School in the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., Mount St. Mary’s University and Loyola University Maryland.

“Although I initially envisioned myself being here at IHM for many years, I believe it is now time for me to embark on a new adventure,” she wrote, without specifying her next move.

“It has been an honor and a blessing to work alongside dedicated faculty, staff, students and families,” Morroni wrote. “Together, we have accomplished significant milestones that I am extremely proud of.”

Morroni said the school has a bright future. The parish will be getting a new pastor, Father John Solomon, at the end of June. The school’s pre-kindergarten will be licensed under new state regulations, and the school will receive Middle States re-accreditation this fall.

She will continue to be part of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish.
