Archmere impresses in boys lacrosse opener

CLAYMONT – Fifth-ranked Archmere was impressive in its season-opening boys lacrosse matchup March 24, defeating Polytech, 17-2.

The Auks raced out to a 5-0 lead less than five minutes in as senior Mitch Moyer scored twice, and Cole Bauer, Brian Neil and Nolan Collins added one each. Polytech took advantage of a man-up situation, with Patrick O’Brien connecting for the Panthers’ first goal. Archmere added two more in the final minute of the first quarter for a 7-1 lead.

The second quarter started as the Nolan Collins show, as he scored a natural hat trick with three unanswered goals in six minutes. The third one was off a great no-look feed from Moyer. Moyer would add the next two goals, including a one-handed tally that gave increased the Auks’ advantage to 12-1. The Auks led, 13-1, at the half.
 
Bauer would score in the first minute of the third quarter with a laser in the top right corner. The Auks scored two more times before O’Brien scored late in the fourth quarter.
 
The Auks (1-0) were led by Collins (five goals), Moyer (four goals, three assists) and Bauer (three goals). They host sixth-ranked Delaware Military Academy on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. The Panthers (0-1) host Middletown on Monday night at 7.
