EASTON, Md. — Saints Peter and Paul High School girls took home their fourth straight ESIAC championship May 6.
Coming off a 13-1 season, the Sabres were confident heading back to the title game in Easton, Md., said head coach Alison Beyer.
Beyer said her skillful team of talented athletes gave the Sabres an edge, but it was their “mental toughness” which translated into the 20-3 win over Salisbury School.
The championship game was “bittersweet,” Beyer said, as it was the last game for captain and ESIAC player of the year Morgan Quade.
“She has made such an impact on the team and has been such a leader on and off the field. No matter the outcome, we were there to play our game and have fun.”
Quade ended her high school career with 205 goals and 210 assists. After graduation she will be attending and playing lacrosse at Loyola University Maryland.
“Going back to the championship game we were all very excited to play one last game together,” Quade said. The confident Sabres knew they would be successful as long as they “played our game,” she said. “We play our best game when we trust each other.”
The future looks bright for Saints Peter and Paul to maintain its dominance as the team graduates just two seniors this year, Emmary Sweeney (who was out with an injury) and Quade, Beyer said.
“I’m so excited for the future of this game. It never really ends. The season just ended and I am already so excited for next season.” she said.
Beyer is a 1997 Saints Peter and Paul graduate. She later played at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and with the USA U19 lacrosse team.
