Sixth graders at Saints Peter and Paul elementary school in Easton, Md., created a tropical rainforest that covered the walls of the middle school corridor.
Visitors were transported to this miraculous rainforest as they entered through the double glass doors.
The school hosted Grandparents Day on May 6 and the display remained up for the week.
Students learned about certain parts of the rainforest and volunteered to work in cooperative groups in their focus area — canopy, trees, background, birds, animals, insects or plants. They started researching their part of the rainforest before Thanksgiving.
Students used their research to create an individual Google slide presentation on the part of the rainforest they chose. They showed their Google slide presentations in January.
Once the rainforest was installed, pre-K3 through fifth grade classes came to visit for 15-minute sessions. The sixth graders acted as museum docents, explaining the contents.
Parents and students continued to visit throughout the following week.
