
NEWARK – The Padua volleyball team, playing for the third time in four days, lost the first set on Oct. 3 at Newark Charter before rallying for a 3-2 win in front of an energized crowd in Newark. Set scores were 25-27, 25-22, 25-20, 22-25, and 12-15.
The Patriots and Pandas have been among the top teams in Delaware all season, and they played like it on Thursday. The match was filled with big hits, impressive defense and high intensity. Errors were at a minimum.
Hannah McGuigan finished with 13 kills, while Josalyn Carter had 12 and Kaitlyn Leberstien 11. The Pandas had 15 blocks, with McGuigan leading the way with 5. Kaitlyn Moss led the way with 35 digs, and Donavyn Morris added 25. Padua improved to 8-2 and hosts Paul VI (N.J.) on Oct. 8 at 7:15 p.m.
For Newark Charter, Kennedy Pavlekovich led three players in double figures in kills with 17, joined by Avery Murray (11) and Aria Hoff (10). The Patriots also had 15 blocks, 6 of which went to Zhara Pritchett. Francesca Manelski had a match-leading 32 digs. Newark Charter (6-2) hosts Wilmington Charter on Oct. 8 at 6:15 p.m.
