WILMINGTON — Ursuline held Wilmington Christian without a shot in a dominating defensive performance on the way to a 2-0 field hockey victory on Oct. 21 at Serviam Field.

After an early attempt by the Warriors went wide, Ursuline took control. They kept the pressure on Wilmington Christian, forcing Warriors goalie Noelle Salvo to make her first save about six minutes into the game. They also earned three penalty corner opportunities, cashing in on the third. On that one, Sammie Weinert got a piece of a loose ball after a scramble in front and tucked it into the cage. Caroline Lober (St. Ann Parish) got the assist.

The Raiders did not score in the second, but not for a lack of trying. They had five more corners, and Salvo made some quality stops.

Ursuline added the insurance goal four minutes into the second half. After an initial save on a high shot by Weinert, Kendall Gulli found the short side with the rebound. Wilmington Christian followed with its best offensive stretch of the afternoon, but they were unable to get anything on Raiders goalie Georgia Rassias.

Ursuline had 11 shots and a 14-1 advantage in penalty corners. The Raiders (9-4) wrap up the regular season with two more games this week. Hodgson visits Serviam Field on Thursday at 4 p.m. The Raiders will meet Brandywine on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Odyssey Charter School.

Salvo had nine saves for the Warriors, who fell to 2-10-1. They close out their season on Thursday at home against Tower Hill at 4 p.m.
