St. Helena Parish music director Joe Louden conducted a multi-group choir during the “You’ll Never Walk Alone: A Musical Offering of Hope and Healing” concert at St. Helena’s in Wilmington on May 19.

Choirs from Salesianum School, Padua Academy and Ursuline Academy performed, along with members of St. Helena’s music ministry and a professional orchestra.

The concert was dedicated to the memory of parishioner Paul David “Gus” Sargent III, who died unexpectedly last November at the age of 14.

Louden teaches at Ursuline and has long worked with the choirs from the three schools, in addition to his work at the church.

Gus was an eighth-grader at St. Edmond’s Academy in north Wilmington and a confirmation candidate at St. Helena. Before attending St. Edmond’s, he had gone to St. Anthony of Padua School in Wilmington.

Gus was an athlete and Boy Scout in addition to a student. He had planned to go to high school at Salesianum, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, according to his obituary.
