CLAYMONT — Carly Polsky went 3 for 4 with two doubles and three runs scored as Archmere scored in the first four innings on the way to a 9-3 softball win May 3 over Ursuline.

The Auks scored three times in the first, and they kept the bats swinging into the second. Madison Evans bunted for a single with one out and stole second, and she scored on Polsky’s first double of the afternoon. Polsky scored on a single by Maya Grande.

Ruby Merenda opened the bottom of the third with a double. She moved to third on an infield hit for Claire McGonigle and scored on a groundout. McGonigle also scored on a groundout.

The Raiders got all of their runs in the fourth. Anna Harris doubled with one out and stole third. With two outs, Katherine Alleman walked. Caroline Peach drove in Harris with a single to left, and after another walk loaded the bases, Bailey Maloney stroked a two-run base hit to right.

After the Auks added two more in their half of the fourth, the Raiders loaded the bases with one out in the top of the fifth. But Archmere pitcher Meredith Finger worked out of the jam, getting the second out on a popup before striking out the next batter. Finger retired the last eight batters she faced.

On offense, Finger had two hits, and Grande drove in three runs. The Auks (8-7) play Newark Charter on May 7 at Midway Softball Complex at 3:45 p.m.

Maloney struck out eight for Ursuline. The Raiders (3-9) begin a busy week with a game against Woodbridge on May 6 at 4 p.m. at Midway Softball Complex.
