Knights of Peter Claver celebrate feast day Sept. 7 with Mass, fellowship at Church of the Holy Child in Wilmington

The Knights of Peter Claver’s tri-state central committee, along with its ladies auxiliary, is hosting a St. Peter Claver feast day Mass on Sept. 7 at 11 a.m. at Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Road, Wilmington. Bishop Koenig will be the celebrant, and Father Glenn Evers will deliver the homily.

Refreshments and fellowship will follow in the church hall, which is handicapped-accessible. RSVP by Aug. 28 by calling Brenda Burns at (302) 322-6899.

St. Peter Claver, a Colombian Jesuit missionary, dedicated his life to helping enslaved Africans in the 18th century. He was canonized in 1888 by Pope Leo XIII.

The Knights of Peter Claver is a Catholic service fraternity founded in 1909 in Mobile, Ala. It is the oldest Black Catholic lay-led organization still in existence.
