MILLTOWN — The fifth-ranked Archmere Auks scored three late goals to push past St. Mark’s, 4-1, in girls soccer on April 13.
The Auks controlled play early, but Spartans goalkeeper DD Shepherd made some fine saves to keep it scoreless. Archmere broke through in the 15th minute as Maddie Law took a centering pass from Karena Wursthorn and beat Shepherd for the 1-0 lead. The Auks dominated play for the rest of the half, but that remained the lone tally.
The Spartans tied it up in the 48th minute as Hannah Schepers scored, her fifth goal in the last two games. Archmere re-captured the lead nine minutes later when Dara Dawson put home the eventual game-winner. Freshman Anna Garcia scored her first goal five minutes after that to give the Auks some breathing room. She added another in the 75th minute off a great feed from Halie Berkowitz as Archmere won its third straight.
The Auks (3-1) outshot the Spartans, 24-4, and had an 8-2 edge in corner kicks. They start a seven-game homestand when St. Elizabeth visits on Monday at 3:45 p.m.
Shepherd made 16 saves for the Spartans (1-3). They will host Dickinson on Monday at 3:45 p.m.
