Sister Frances Schiminsky, a professed Franciscan for 76 years, dies at 95

ASTON, Pa. — Sister Frances Schiminsky, formerly Sister Ann Phillip, a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 76 years, died in Assisi House on Oct. 21. She was 95.

A native of Baltimore, Sister Frances ministered primarily in education and pastoral ministry. In her very early years of religious life, she was a cook in the convent at St. Ann Church in Wilmington for a year.

She spent 51 years in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, 26 of those in education as a teacher. She also worked in parish ministry in the archdiocese for 24 years at St. Clement Parish in Baltimore and St. Patrick Parish in Havre de Grace. Sister Frances also served in New Jersey, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania.

She moved to Assisi House in 2017 and served in prayer ministry and hospitality until her death.

All services will be Oct. 25 at Assisi House and will be livestreamed. A Christian wake service begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by a viewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11, with burial to follow in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. Donations in her name can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S.
