WILMINGTON — Parents filled the lawn and driveway outside St. Mary Magdalen School in north Wilmington on Aug. 26 as their students exited the building after the first day of school for 2024-25. It was a scene that took place at several Catholic schools across the Diocese of Wilmington that opened their doors on Aug. 26.
Many of the younger students leaving St. Mary Magdalen ran toward their parents after spotting them in the crowd. Others posed for pictures behind a “first day” stand, while some talked to friends, and a few stopped at the playground.
As the cars headed out of the driveway, interim principal Kathy Jacono and various faculty members waved at the students. Other students hopped on bicycles or walked to their nearby residences.
