OCEAN CITY, Md. — Voices filled the beach beneath a blue sky and brilliant sunshine as Father Lance Martin, adminstrator of St. Mary Star of the Sea parish, blessed the ocean on the feast of Our Lady of the Assumption.
The event with dozens of parishioners and passersby happened after a procession from the church following 11 a.m. Mass.
The procession wound from Holy Savior Church to the beach on 17th Street, crossing eight lanes of traffic on Coastal Highway. A few in the crowd wore their Sunday best but replaced shoes with flip-flops or sandals for the beach.
Father Martin, named administrator of the parish earlier this year, conducted the annual service for the first time as head of the parish.
