BEAR — Carson Peace scored a goal early in the fourth quarter, the only player to find the back of the cage as Caravel defeated Archmere, 1-0, in field hockey under the lights on Sept.24 at Bob Peoples Stadium.
Peace got open and was able to send a pass from Hailey Haynes past Auks goalie Caeli McAlonan, who otherwise was impenetrable in the net, 33 seconds into the fourth. The Bucs had had most of the possession time in the third quarter, and that continued into the final stanza. Finally, Caravel was able to take advantage.
The Bucs had two penalty corners in the opening minutes of the second half, and they sent a shot off the post. McAlonan made a save after that to keep it scoreless. They would add three more corners before the third was done, shooting wide on one and having McAlonan knock a shot wide on another as time expired.
They kept the ball to open the fourth and found success immediately. Haynes and Peace teamed up for the lone marker. The Auks made some noise offensively, but they could not get anything past the Caravel defense and goalie Addison Van Rensler. Their best opportunity in the fourth came with about seven and a half minutes to go when a shot from outside the scoring circle was tipped and went wide left. McAlonan kept the score close with a few key saves.
Caravel finished with a 12-3 shot advantage and took 8 penalty corners to the Auks’ 2. Van Rensler had two saves. The Bucs (6-1) visit Saint Mark’s at noon on Saturday.
For the Auks, McAlonan had 10 saves. Archmere (4-3) is home Thursday against Appoquinimink for a 3:45 p.m. start.
