The quest for a berth in the Class 3A state tournament begins the afternoon of Sept. 6 for the Saint Mark’s football team at St. Georges. The Spartans and Hawks get things going at 4 p.m.; tickets are available here.
The Spartans are coming off a 4-6 season in 2023, but they do have some experience in key positions. Senior Jude Campbell returns at quarterback, and his brother James will be one of his primary targets. Campbell also has Matteo Bracalenti and Tyler Iudica to throw to. The Spartans will be working some new faces into the backfield. Connor Sullivan anchors a veteran offensive line. Many of the same names will be playing defense for coach Joe Wright.
Saint Mark’s have several challenges on the schedule, beginning with the opener. They are on the road against both of last year’s 3A finalists, Cape Henlopen and Salesianum, and they’ll host Middletown. Just four of their games are at home after hosting six at the Graveyard last season.
