WILMINGTON — Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Wilmington has received $220,000 from the state of Delaware through the state’s annual grant-in-aid appropriations bill, which was passed in June. The money will be used to support Bayard House, Casa San Francisco and Behavioral Health Services.

Bayard House in Wilmington is the only fully licensed residential program serving expectant or newly parenting minors and young women in Delaware, according to Charities. The women receive access to prenatal care, meals and case-management services to develop self-sufficiency through employment, financial coaching and stable housing.

Casa San Francisco in Milton is an adult emergency shelter and food pantry designed to prevent homelessness and the loss of basic services. Ongoing case management is utilized to help residents attain financial stability and stable housing. Casa is one of the few shelters in Sussex County.

Behavioral Health Services provides routine outpatient counseling to clients who are under-insured or uninsured. Counseling is available in New Castle, Kent, and Sussex counties in Delaware, and in Somerset County in Maryland.

“Catholic Charities is grateful to receive this significant award, which directly benefits those in need in Delaware,” said Lisa Schieffert, director of program operations. “The profound impact of this funding on the lives of the most vulnerable cannot be overestimated.”

Catholic Charities, the social service arm of the Diocese of Wilmington, has been serving those in need for 194 years. Additional information is available at www.ccwilm.org.
