The music ministry of St. Joseph Parish in Middletown will present a Cantata, “Way of the Cross,” on Sunday, Feb. 18, 4 pm, featuring the parish choir, cantors and orchestra.

The work will feature John Sposato as reader and Father Mark Kelleher as presider/cantor. It will be conducted by Rosemary Hadland, director of music ministry. An optional Lenten supper in the parish hall will follow immediately after the performance.

“Way of the Cross” is composed by Vince Ambrosetti, renowned Catholic publisher, composer and artist. A gorgeous musical setting based on St. Alphonsus Ligouri’s prayerful Stations of the Cross, the cantata will allow those in attendance to participate in the sung responses for each station.

The performance will highlight the newly restored Stations of the Cross featured in the nave of St. Joseph Church.

“Way of the Cross” is approximately one hour long. It will be followed by a simple Lenten soup-and-bread supper in St. Joseph Hall, provided by the Columbiettes Old Bohemia Auxiliary. The concert and dinner are free of charge; however, because of limited space, reservations are required for the dinner. To reserve a seat for dinner, please contact the parish office at 302-378-5800 no later than Feb. 9.

“This is a beautiful way to begin the season of Lent,” Father Kelleher said. “The music, prayers, and stunning stations are sure to put everyone in the right frame of mind and heart for our spiritual journey alongside Christ as he endured his passion and death.”
