DOVER — Nine students from Holy Cross School in Dover have been recognized as 2024 Scholastic Art Award honorees. Under the direction of art educator Sharon Benini, the students began working on their projects in June 2023. They completed and submitted their work this past December.

Two of the works were featured on the Delaware Art Educators Association social media. The association is highlighting the work of students in April, which is Youth Art Month. Four of the students were awarded Gold Keys; their work has been entered into the national competition. Those winners will be announced in June.

The Gold Key winners are Lily Cutrona, “Beauty at What Cost?”, sculpture; Mackenzie Lynn, “Dis-Service Animals,” editorial cartoon; Andrew Russum, “EcoCanopy Complex,” architecture and industrial design; and Adrianna Vu, “This Is My Home Too,” editorial cartoon.

Silver Key winners are Marie Emerson, “Missing Daddy,” mixed media; Macie Emerson, “Extinction Disaster,” sculpture; Margaux Sharp, “Waste Not, Want Not,” fashion; and Alaina Tracy, “Helpless Homeless,” editorial cartoon. Zachary Klaus received honorable mention for his editorial cartoon “Maui: A Spark of Negligence.”
