CHILDS, Md. — Mount Aviat Academy’s Future City team recently took first place at the Mid-Atlantic Future City regional competition in Baltimore. They will be competing in the finals this weekend in Washington, D.C.
Future City is a hand-on cross curricular educational program that brings science, technology, engineering and mathematics to life for students in sixth through eighth grades. Using design and management skills, the students showcase solutions for citywide sustainability.
This year’s challenge asked students to build a 100% electrically powered city with energy generated from sources that keep citizens and the environment healthy and safe.
Mount Aviat’s contingent was recognized for outstanding presentation, outstanding essay and best city project plan.
The teacher coordinators are Erin Dymowski and Teri Hanby.
