Aiden Tobiason, a senior at St. Elizabeth who led the Vikings to a 22-2 record in the recently completed boys high school basketball season, has been named the state player of the year. The player of the year and the all-state teams were announced March 18 by the Delaware Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association. Writers who regularly cover the sport have a vote, as do the state’s head coaches.

Tobiason, who will play college basketball at Temple University, is a 6-5 shooting guard. He was the player of the year in the Diamond State Athletic Conference. St. Elizabeth won its first 18 games and advanced to the semifinals of the state tournament before falling to Salesianum. Tobiason scored a season-best 30 points against the Sals in a game at the St. E Center.

Joining Tobiason on the first team is Salesianum senior Kareem Thomas. Thomas, who has committed to Dartmouth for his college ball, had 24 points in the Sals’ semifinal victory over St. Elizabeth, and he led the team with 18 in the championship game, a loss to Dover.

The other members of the first team are Jaylin Horsey, William Penn; Dorell Little, Dover; and Denim Perkins, Dover. All three are seniors.

Two Salesianum players earned second-team honors. They are seniors Justin Hinds and Isaiah Hynson. Both played three seasons of varsity basketball for the Sals, and the team reached the finals in all three seasons. St. Elizabeth also is represented on the second team by senior Julius Wright.

They are joined by Jayden Taylor, junior, Sanford, and Kashmier Wise, senior, Seaford.

Saint Mark’s sophomore Alassan N’Diaye was named to the third team. N’Diaye, who started nearly every game this past season, led the Spartans in scoring. Saint Mark’s went 16-4 in the regular season and was the sixth seed in the state tournament. They defeated Appoquinimink in double overtime in the second round, with N’Diaye leading them with 22 points, before falling at Middletown in the quarterfinals.

The other members of the third team are Ayvion Matthews, senior, Middletown; Darius Miller, junior, Lake Forest; Blair Thomas, senior, St. Georges; and Emmanuel Vonhm, senior, William Penn.
