Volleyball players from Catholic high schools in Diocese of Wilmington take five of nine first-team spots

Sue Heiss was named Delaware’s high school volleyball coach of the year in her last season at the helm of the Ursuline Raiders. Ursuline went 9-8, reaching the semifinal round of the DIAA state tournament. The coach of the year and all-state teams were announced Nov. 17 by the Delaware High School Volleyball Coaches Association.

The player of the year is Brenya Reid of Sussex Central. Reid, a senior, will play college volleyball at James Madison University, where one of her teammates will be former Delaware all-state player Dani Nathan.

Reid is joined on the first team by the following players:

Brooke Dow, senior, Saint Mark’s; Mya Lewis, senior, Saint Mark’s; Audrey Lyons, senior, Padua; Meghan Peters, senior, Padua; Julia Yurkovich, junior, Saint Mark’s; Abby Carian, senior, Wilmington Friends; Reagan Mendick, senior, Red Lion; and Jocelyn Nathan, junior, Wilmington Friends.

Second team

Nicole Dimiris, senior, Saint Mark’s; Taylor Holly, sophomore, Saint Mark’s; Katie Sonchen, senior, Saint Mark’s; Kimberly Czepukaitis, senior, Dover; Kaylee Longueira, senior, Delaware Military; Reena Robinson, senior, Wilmington Friends; Emma Staib, senior, Concord; and Anjali Vishwanathan, senior, Wilmington Charter.

Third team

Hannah Kelley, junior, Ursuline; Natalie Bush, senior, Wilmington Friends; Laila Glover, junior, Caravel; Christina Marcin, senior, Wilmington Charter; Morgan Nolte, senior, Middletown; McKenna Ritchie, junior, Newark Charter; Chloe Sachs, junior, Tower Hill; Sierra Troyer, senior, Delmarva Christian; and Rileigh Wilson, senior, Cape Henlopen.

Newark won the sportsmanship award from the coaches.
