Sister Claire Smith, an Ursuline sister who once taught in Wilmington, died April 25 in Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, N.Y. She was 86.
Sister Claire began her teaching career in Ursuline schools in Bethesda, Md., and Wilmington. She also taught in the Archdiocese of New York and worked at the College of New Rochelle in both instruction and administration.
In the early 1980s, she transitioned into counseling and spiritual direction. She also spent several years guiding women who wished to become Ursuline sisters. In addition, she was a faculty member of the Center for Spiritual Development.
Services were April 30 in New Rochelle. Donations in her name can be made to the Ursuline Sisters Development Fund, 1338 North Ave., New Rochelle, NY 10804.
