May into June events coming up in the Diocese of Wilmington — find something fun, something spiritual

Looking for something fun or spiritual to do in the next few weeks? Here are some upcoming events in the Diocese of Wilmington to check out.

  • At the beach in late May? Check out St. Luke’s Parish Golf Open at Bayside Resort Golf Club on May 29. Sponsorships are still being accepted. Day includes a full round of golf and dinner banquet. For more information, call (410) 250-0300.
  • On June 3 at 6 p.m. there will be Devotions to St. Elizabeth, at St. Elizabeth Church in Wilmington. Featuring Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Liturgy of the Word, Benediction, Litany and Hymn to St. Elizabeth. A blessing of the child in the womb will be offered to any pregnant parents in attendance. All are welcome. (302) 652-3626.
  • On June 8, 5-8 p.m.: St. Benedict Church in Ridgely is hosting a Country Western Party. Enjoy live entertainment with The Jones Boys, a delicious dinner, dancing, cash bar, silent & live auctions. Tickets are $25, children under 12 are free. To purchase tickets, contact the parish office at 410-634-2253.
  • And if you like a parade, the St. Anthony Society of St. Peter the Apostle Church in New Castle is celebrating its 100 year anniversary with a procession through the streets. Marchers will be waving to spectators along the way to a short ceremony at the Italian monument. They will take a break for complimentary traditional Italian water ice and are treated to a tasting of some homemade wine. In addition to members and families, processing will be friends, neighbors, parishioners and an authentic Italian band. Organizers invite people to join in the celebration. If you are unable to walk and fortunate to live in and around the procession route, please gather along the sidewalk with your chairs and red, white and green to help celebrate the 100th anniversary.   • St. John the Beloved Parish carnival is June 3-8, featuring rides, food and live entertainment. Scheduled bands are Teenage Satellites, The Everafter, Love Seed Mama Jump, Decade80, Helixx and Electric Blue Concept. Advance ride tickets will be sold after Masses the weekends of May 25-26 and June 1-2 except for the last Mass on Sunday. Ticket strips are $20, a 20 percent discount, and family night bracelets will be $25. People are invited to buy tickets to donate back to the parish for distribution to those less fortunate. The carnival is open each night from 6-10 p.m. There is no admission fee. For more information, www.facebook.com/StJohntheBelovedCarnival.
  • One of the most popular carnivals in the area, the 50th Annual St. Anthony’s Italian Festival will take place June 9-16. The hours are 4-10:30 p.m. on June 9, 6-10:30 p.m. June 10-14, 4-10:30 p.m. on June 15, and 2-6 p.m. on June 16. Includes options for Italian and carnival food, live music, traditional dances, rides and games. It is almost exclusively cashless. The event accepts all major credit cards, and gift cards and entry passes are available in advance and also on-site. Parking for the event is available at the gravel lot across 18th Street from Salesianum School, with a shuttle operating each day from 30 minutes before the opening until 30 minutes after closing.   • And St. Joseph Parish in Middletown will hold its carnival from June 11-15. It includes rides and games, along with an outside grill and other food options. There will be nightly entertainment “under the big top.” According to the parish, this year, the carnival will include a fenced perimeter, which was added after consulting with the Middletown Police Department. There will be an admission fee, which has not yet been announced. Free parking will be available. St. Joseph’s is located at 371 E. Main St., Middletown. More information at stjosephmiddletown.com.

  • On June 20 the Little Sisters of the Poor will hold their annual Swing Fore Little Sisters Golf Tournament at Deerfield Country Club in Newark. All proceeds benefit the Jeanne Jugan Residence where the Little Sisters provide for the neediest elderly of every race and religion a home where they will be welcomed as Christ, cared for as family and accompanied with dignity until God calls them to himself. Sponsorships range from $200-$10,000. Golfers $200, Dinner Guest $50. Donations for raffles and silent auction also welcome.
