WILMINGTON — Kathleen Jacono, a longtime educator in the Diocese of Wilmington, has been appointed the interim principal at St. Mary Magdalen School for the 2024-25 school year. She succeeds Patrick Tiernan, who has been named president at Saint Mark’s High School.

The announcement was made July 1 by Father James Kirk, pastor of St. Mary Magdalen.

Jacono, he said in a letter to the school community, has been a member of the parish community for decades, since she attended St. Mary Magdalen School. She began working at the school as a seventh- and eighth-grade language arts teacher, then moved to first grade for 20 years. In 2016, she moved to second grade. She is entering her 32 years in Catholic education.

In addition to her teaching experience, Jacono has served as the school religion coordinator and a sacramental prep teacher for reconciliation and First Communion. She also served as the primary level coordinator and a mentor for new teachers, and she has gone through the Middle States accreditation process several times.

She is a graduate of the University of Delaware and has a master’s degree from West Chester University.
