St. Mark’s High School freshmen meet up during the summer before school officially begins

MILLTOWN — High school can be an intimidating experience, particularly for freshmen coming in from various middle schools. But at St. Mark’s, the members of the Class of 2021 are already old friends.

Nearly all of the incoming students have met each other through the school’s annual Get Connected program, which takes a few days out of the summer to bring everyone together. Catholic Schools: Believe, learn, serve, lead, succeed

As we begin a new school year, allow me to quiz what you remember about grammar in English Language Arts.

Q1 – What are the eight parts of speech?

A1 – If you remember at least five parts of speech, you’re doing okay. The ones you probably recall are noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, and adverb. (If you read to the conclusion of this essay, you’ll learn the missing three parts of speech.)

Q2 – What is a verb?

A2 – A verb is an action word. Right! Everyone should have this answer.

As you glance back at the title of this essay, you will see that the five words describing what Catholic Schools do are all verbs. Catholic schools are about actions. Let’s look a bit more deeply into the “verbs of Catholic schools.”

Ss. Peter and Paul School celebrating 60 years in Easton, Md.

‘Real family’ atmosphere pervades at Easton where elementary school and high school are uniting as one

EASTON, Md. – When Alison McDaniel Beyer went to an orientation meeting for parents of Ss. Peter and Paul Elementary School last year, “it was like a reunion for me.”

Beyer and her family had just moved back to her childhood home from Florida, and she had enrolled her son, Mike, for pre-kindergarten at Ss. Peter and Paul. Read more »

Enrollment is first on the ‘to do’ list of St. Mark’s new principal

St. Mark’s High School in Wilmington opened with about 650 students in its classrooms this year.

“This community knows this enrollment is not what it was,” Richard Bayhan, St. Mark’s new principal, told The Dialog recently.

He said that as someone new to the campus, it’s hard for him to know exactly why enrollment declined over the years, “but here’s what I would imagine.” Read more »
