St. Mark’s boys improve to 12-5 with 35-29 win over Wilmington Charter

WILMINGTON – St. Mark’s boys basketball team, with memories of last week’s five-overtime loss to Salesianum fresh in its mind, needed to keep its focus on the task at hand Feb. 13. That was a late-afternoon tilt at Wilmington Charter, which entered the contest at 7-10.

The Spartans passed the test, putting on the usual St. Mark’s performance. The deliberate offense and tough defense paid dividends in a 35-29 win over the Force. Read more »

Spartans walk off past Sals in extra-inning baseball thriller

WILMINGTON – Fourth-ranked St. Mark’s and rival Salesianum, the No. 6 team, played a classic baseball game May 8 at Frawley Stadium, with the Spartans pulling out a 2-1 win in eight innings.

Spartans starter Billy Sullivan was throwing straight gas between 91 and 96 miles per hour, with at least a half-dozen major-league scouts in attendance. Sallies starter Eugene Holler was also dealing as the teams put on an old-fashioned exciting pitching duel. Read more »

Spartans stay unbeaten with win at Archmere

CLAYMONT – St. Mark’s scored seven runs in the first three innings to defeat Archmere, 8-3, in nonconference baseball on April 8. The top of the order did the damage for the Spartans.

Leadoff hitter Tyler Kaczmarczyk drew a walk, and Brian Gilardi singled to right to put runners on first and second. Andrew Reich moved them up on a groundout, and Kaczmarczyk scored on a groundout by Matt Theodorakis. Sean Gilardi singled in Brian to give St. Mark’s a 2-0 lead after one. Read more »
